When should I switch to cow's milk?
It is recommended to give your baby breast milk, baby milk or milk on until his first birthday. You can then, if you like, start giving him cow's milk, preferably whole.
Why wait?
It is important to wait until your baby is one year, because cow's milk does not contain enough iron. You can still use it in dishes from its six months. Infant formula and "follow-on milk" (also called "growing up milk" contain more iron and vitamins than cow's milk. These are the only alternatives to breastfeeding in the first year. After the first six months breastfeeding, breast milk no longer provides enough iron, so breastfeeding mums should make sure that weaning foods contain. You will find in red meat, iron fortified cereals, dried fruit purees.
How much?
From a year, milk should still play an important role in feeding your child, it contains essential proteins: calcium, magnesium and vitamins B12 and B2 (riboflavin). Your baby needs a minimum of 350 ml of whole cow's milk per day. If he is reluctant to drink milk, suggest two servings of calcium rich foods per day. Yogurt, cheese, sardines, tofu, white bread and chickpeas all contain calcium.
Why give him fat?
It is advisable to give whole milk to your baby because he needs the energy from fat. It also contains essential vitamins A and D. If you choose a low-fat milk, the vitamins will be reduced as well. You can give your child whole milk until he has at least two years.
How do I give?
Hot or cold, whatever. Some health professionals believe that at this stage, we can try the gradual learning of the cup, glass (unbreakable) or cup and move away from the bottle.
