YOUR APPEARANCE

Hair

During your pregnancy you may have noticed that your hair had a different aspect. Your hair was shinier, silkier and perhaps less forked. Their color may be changed as well as their texture (if you have curly hair they may have been steeper and vice versa). You probably also noticed that you lose less hair, or that you show more hair on the face. All this is due to pregnancy hormones.

So do not be surprised if, between the third and sixth month after delivery, you tend to lose hair. This is quite normal since you have not lost during your pregnancy. To fight against this phenomenon hairdressers recommend to get a haircut right after childbirth, not to use too much electric dryer and taking supplements of vitamin B.

The skin

The hormones of pregnancy also had a beneficial effect on your skin. But after delivery, this phenomenon will be reversed. This explains (added to fatigue), dry skin and poor mine of many young mothers. The natural balance of the skin will return with the return of menses. Meanwhile be sure to moisturize.

Some problems may persist, however:

Stretch marks: caused by the distension of the skin during pregnancy, they are very apparent immediately after birth (they may even be red and purple) but gradually fade to become thin white veins. Do not expose to the sun above. If they persist, consult a dermatologist for advice treatment options (cream with vitamin A acid, derma-abrasion, plastic surgery). Beware of laser treatments that are not yet sufficiently advanced.

Areas of pigmentation (pregnancy mask, brown line on the belly), which are caused by hormones, will still persist for a few months (longer if you take birth control pills). Avoid the sun up. By cons, the nipples and vulva, which became darker during pregnancy, may remain permanently more pigmented.

Warning: If you saw during your pregnancy or after delivery, the appearance of moles, watch them carefully. If you notice a mole of "all colors" (blue, gray, pink), in shredded form, very dark, or modification of an existing mole, see a dermatologist soon.

The red spots, called spider veins, which may occur during pregnancy are likely to disappear spontaneously. If this is not the case, they can be électrocoagulées by a dermatologist.
Varicose veins.

They are due to circulatory disorders in pregnancy (under the influence of hormones dilate the veins and blood volume increases). After delivery, if the valves that cause blood in the veins remain weak, blood can stagnate and then the veins appear on the surface of the skin, blue, purple and sometimes prominent.

Varicose veins are unfortunately often hereditary, but a healthy lifestyle can mitigate. So remember to watch your weight, wear support stockings, elevate legs to sleep (by raising the bottom of your bed), to completely avoid hot baths, to exercise and take supplements of vitamin B . A doctor can remove them phlebologist either sclerosis (injection of a sclerosing agent into the vein), if they are small and thin, either by surgery, if they affect a network of major veins of the body surface.
