Childbirth: Decrease pain
Some mothers prefer to live a full delivery and not receive an epidural or other means of alleviating pain. Others do not consider one second to give birth as their mother and grandmother ...
Childbirth without pain is actually a method of relaxation and breathing techniques that can channel and control pain. Pioneering method before the arrival of epidural analgesia, it is taught during the course of preparation for childbirth.
The epidural
This is the most effective method to stop the pain of childbirth. When work is underway and that the cervix is sufficient (2/3 cm), the anesthetist puts you through a long, thin needle, a small catheter in the back that will supply the anesthetic until 'nerve roots.
You will still feel the contractions but without the pain that accompanies them.
This anesthesia will facilitate the work of the obstetrician for caesarean section or forceps.
The number of epidurals varies from one clinic to the other especially at night. Check with your doctor. Consultation with the anesthesiologist is essential.
Anesthesia
If you do not have an epidural, the doctor may relieve (never fully) by morphine derivatives passed in slow infusion. This process alleviates much pain.
Upon passage of the baby, the doctor may use a local anesthetic "depth" of the buttocks. Local anesthesia of the zone of episiotomy is easy to make and can be of service.
Sometimes having to general anesthesia at the last moment for an extreme emergency Caesarean section, forceps or a uterus. This event is relatively uncommon today.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture can also help relieve pain. This is to balance the Yin and Yang, the source of pain according to TCM. It is not practiced in all centers. Check with the team.
The preference for either of these methods is a personal matter. Educate yourself, do not hesitate to ask many questions of your doctor and your friends.
